Normally stuff
that is covered here at justaddnoise is in no way as well known
as Devo. Sometimes though, you come across something that you just
know is going to be great without seeing or hearing it. This DVD
is a prime example of that. It's Devo live in Japan, how could it
possibly be disappointing?
Where else on
Earth could you find a pulsating sea of adoring fans wearing bootlegged
Energy Domes and singing every word right along with the band? Not
in the U.S. I'm guessing. With even the trendiest of tours not selling
enough tickets to be profitable, it's a shame us westerners don't
recognize and reward quality musicians but we continue to encourage
the likes of Lil' Jon and The Ying Yang Twins!? A damn shame...
Possibly most
impressive is how great these guys sound after all these years.
With only a few other bands staying together for this long, their
intensity never waivers - and speaking of lasting bands, a highlight
is a cover of The Stones' Satisfaction. Not many people do Stones
better than the Stones!
If
the 5.1 surround mix of favorites such as Girl U Want and
Whip It isn't enough, you also get interviews, backstage
footage, Devo shopping in Tokyo and enough Devo to satisfy that
craving you forgot you had. Sweet! |
